Enda Kenny said the referendum is significant

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said while the "vast majority" of Irish parents were doing their job in raising children and doing their best for them, some children still found themselves in "vulnerable circumstances".

Campaigning in the Children Referendum, Mr Kenny said next week's referendum was about protecting children where family structures had failed and children faced "fear and danger".

Mr Kenny said the referendum is significant and people should vote regardless of their view on the amendment.

Meanwhile former Presidential candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon has called for a no vote in next week's referendum.

She described the vote as a contentious and unnecessary Constitutional amendment.
