Man airlifted to hospital after falling in Co Kerry

A man in his 50s has been airlifted to hospital by coast guard helicopter after falling while hill-walking in Co Kerry.

The man was descending from Carrauntoohil in the MacGillycuddy's Reeks when he fell at the Heavenly Gates and suffered leg injuries.

The alarm was raised shortly after 5pm this evening.

Members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team responded, and the man was winched on board a coast guard helicopter at around 6.30pm.

He is currently being treated in Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.
