A roadside bomb has killed at least 19 people, mostly women and children, who were on their way to a wedding in northern Afghanistan.

Over a dozen others were wounded in the blast in the Dawlat Abad district of Balkh province.

Provincial police spokesman Shir Jan Durani blamed the Taliban for the attack.

Violence has been increasing across the country as the deadline of end-2014 looms for most foreign combat troops to leave Afghanistan.
