Two men have been arrested after up to 50 puppies were found in two cars stopped by gardaí in Dublin.

The puppies were found in boxes in the back of both cars, which were searched by gardaí and DSPCA officers on the Old Malahide Road in the Coolock area this afternoon.

A number of cocker and springer spaniels, terriers, beagles and labrador breeds along with 25 Jack Russell pups were recovered.

The two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, are being held at Coolock Garda Station.

The DSPCA is currently taking care of the dogs.
