A secondary school in Kilkenny is the first in the country to get involved in a pilot project to develop a fully digital classroom.

Loreto Secondary School is teaming up with Samsung to carry out Europe's first classroom pilot of Samsung's Smart School Solution.

Around 30 new Galaxy Note tablets with S-pen technology and a 1.65 metre interactive e-board are being given free to the school for the coming year.

Pupils from each year will use the technology at certain times during the week, which lets teachers lead interactive lessons through touch screen and content sharing features.

It also allows students to access course materials and information, as well as school notices and forums, through their tablets.

Some schools in South Korea and the US have also tried out the technology.
