The village of Abbeyshrule in Co Longford has been announced as the winner of this year's Tidy Towns competition.

Abbeyshrule also won the Tidiest Village award.

It is the first time Abbeyshrule has won a prize in the competition.

Clonakilty in Co Cork was the Tidiest Small Town winner, Westport in Co Mayo was the Tidiest Large Town, and Ennis was the Tidiest Large Urban Area.

There were a record 855 entries this year.
