Cork swimmer Steve Redmond has become the first person in the world to complete the gruelling 'Oceans7' challenge.

He crossed the 19.5km Tsugaru Strait in Japan earlier this evening in a time of 14 hours 24 minutes.

It completes the challenge of swimming the Moloka'i Channel in Hawaii, the Cook Strait in New Zealand, the English Channel, the Catalina Channel in California, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Irish Channel between Scotland and Northern Ireland.
