Two new antiviral drug treatments for Hepatitis C are to be made available for public patients.

The move follows an agreement between the Department of Health and the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association.

The manufacturers of Victrelis and Incivo said the treatments will be reimbursed by the State for public patients.

Specialists say the treatments will especially help people who have the hardest to treat form of the disease.

Over 1,200 new cases of Hepatitis C are reported each year.
