Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin, has said the Eucharistic Congress is not a triumphalist event but a moment in a process of reflection and renewal for the Catholic Church here.

Dr Martin was speaking ahead of the opening of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin tomorrow, the second time in the event’s history that it has been held in Ireland.

The event takes place once every four years and attracts thousands of participants from all around the world.

Dr Martin said the event is a chance to show the good that is being done within the Catholic Church.
