The Government is to propose amendments to the means test for students' grants from next year, the Minister for Education has told the Dáil.

Under the changes the means test would include the value of assets held.

Speaking during Minister's Questions, Ruairi Quinn said he will get a report on the issue during the summer. He said the change would involve legislation.

Fianna Fáil Education Spokesperson Brendan Smith said it would be wrong to include productive assets in the means tests.
