Katie Taylor has secured a place in the final of the World Boxing Championships in China.

The Bray boxer beat Tajikistan’s Mavzuna Chorieva 16-6 in the semi-final in Qinhuangdao this morning.

Taylor had already booked her place in this summer’s Olympics in London by reaching the last four of this tournament.

Speaking to RTÉ after her fight, Taylor said she was “delighted to be in another final and one step closer to retaining my world title”.

Taylor’s faster footwork and combinations saw her take a 5-1 lead after the first round.

She dominated the second round to stretch her advantage to 8-2 as Chorieva struggled to get close.

The third round was a closer contest but Taylor won it 3-2 to extend her lead to 11-4.

The final round saw Chorieva take a standing count as Taylor eased to victory.

The three-time world champion will meet Russia’s Sofya Ochigava in the final tomorrow.

There will be live coverage of the bout on RTÉ 2 at 8am.
