4,326 people sign up for HSE early retirement

4,326 have signed up to the early retirement scheme in the health service since last September, of which 524 are going to be replaced.

4,326 people have signed up to the early retirement scheme in the health service since last September, of which 524 are going to be replaced.

This represents a 12% replacement rate.

2,150 people will retire at the end of the month, while 2,176 retired by the end of January.

The Health Service Executive has said that it has been making arrangements since last autumn for the retirements, including significant redeployments.

It has also put in place a €16m fund to fill critical gaps which cannot be filled through redeployment.

1,994 nurses are retiring, of whom 662 are senior nurse managers.

57 hospital consultants are expected to retire, of which 48 are being replaced.
