Nineteen Peacocks' stores are to close in Northern Ireland, with the loss of more than 250 jobs.

The Bon Marche store, which is part of the Peacocks group and located in Anne Street, Belfast, is also closing.

Ten Peacocks stores, employing 140 people, are to remain open across Northern Ireland.

In all, 224 UK stores will cease trading with immediate effect.

The fashion retailer has been sold out of administration to Edinburgh Woollen Mill, but 3,100 staff across the United Kingdom will be made redundant.

Administrators KPMG said the move saved 388 shops and more than 6,000 jobs.
