The trial of two Limerick brothers charged with threatening to kill four people has been told that one of them, Wayne Dundon, told a woman his brother would pay someone €10,000 to kill her son.
Wayne Dundon, 33, of Lenihan Avenue has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to four people.
His brother, John, 29, from Hyde Rd has pleaded not guilty to four charges.
Their trial opened before the Special Criminal Court today.
Prosecuting counsel Tom O'Connell told the court that on 30 September 2010, Wayne Dundon told Alice Collins that his brother John would pay "some fool" €10,000 to kill her son.
The prosecution outlined the nine threats to potential witnesses Alice Collins and her daughter, April, which are alleged to have occurred at various addresses in Limerick city between 2010 and 2011.
The court was told that April Collins used to go out with the Dundons' brother Gerard and had three children with him over eight years.
Gerard Dundon was sentenced in relation to extortion charges in 2010 and jailed in Limerick Prison.
April Collins ended the relationship and the court heard this led to acrimony between the former couple and his brothers.
The court heard that on 3 April 2011, Wayne Dundon called to April Collins' house and demanded to know why she was not letting the children see his brother in prison and allegedly threatened to kill her.
The court was shown an outline family tree sketching out the relationships between the extended Dundon and Collins' families.
Sgt Dennis Treacy said he had drawn this up from his own knowledge.
The trial before the non-jury court is expected to last five days.
