Drinking water supplies are being restored to 1,500 households in west Limerick, however a temporary boil water notice remains in place until early next week.

Limerick County Council made the decision following consultations with the Health Service Executive.

An oil pollution incident in the River Deel over two weeks ago led to widespread water restrictions.

The boil notice requires that all water from the watermain supply should be boiled before drinking or cooking.

It will apply to Foynes, Shanagolden, Askeaton, Morgans, Barrigone, Creeves, Ballysteen, Castletown and Kilcornan, as well as for the Pallaskenry and Kildimo watermain supply.

According to Limerick Co Co Director of Services Paul Crowe "Water tankers are now being removed as the watermain supply can now be used in accordance with this boil water notice."
