A second one-day strike by EBS workers has been suspended pending acceptance of a deal which will see workers get 50% of their '13th month' payment.

It was also agreed an employer's contribution of €4.8m would be paid into the pension scheme, while existing industrial relations policies and procedures will be adhered to throughout the process of integrating EBS staff into Allied Irish Bank.

EBS workers will be balloted on the deal tonight, and the outcome will be known by next Tuesday.

Traditionally, staff at EBS get a full month's pay as an end-of-year-bonus, but they were told in December they would not receive bonuses.

The trade union Unite said it will be recommending the deal to its members.
