Tourism officials from Poland are seeking to reassure Irish soccer fans that they will not be "ripped off" during the 2012 UEFA European Championships.

It follows claims from supporters that hotels had vastly increased their normal rates in Gdansk, where Ireland play one game, and Poznan, where Ireland play two matches.

Both cities are exhibiting for the first time at the Holiday World Show at RDS Simmonscourt this weekend.

Maciej Labuda, from the City Hall of Gdansk, admitted "prices had gone up, multiple times on several occasions."

However he said that "city authorities were in talks with the hotel industry to negotiate cheaper room rates".

Damian Zalewski, from Euro 2012 Poznan, said "he was absolutely sure that prices had peaked" and that room rates "would fall substantially" over the coming weeks.

Both cities said they would be "100% ready" for the tournament, adding that they expected the majority of Irish supporters to stay in dedicated "fan campsites".
