The Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association has called for the abolition of fire service charges.
It said the principle of charging for domestic fires is wrong and that the charge was not proposed or sought by the firefighters in the fire service.
The association said the charge was imposed by executive officers of county councils and supported by elected county councillors.
IFESA national chairperson John Kidd said the charges vary and so it is a postcode lottery that raises serious health and safety issues.
