Small schools may have to share resourcesTuesday 17 January 2012 10.55
A Minister of State has hinted that small schools could have to share resources due to funding shortages.
Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport Alan Kelly said that there will have to be "economies" of resources between small schools that are located close to each other.
Speaking on RTÉ's The Week in Politics, Minister Kelly said that it was absolutely not the ambition of the Government to close small rural schools.
But Fianna Fáil's Sean Fleming said the phrase "economies of scale between schools" means that small schools will close.
He added that students would then be bussed to a bigger school nearby.
