Kernel Capital, through the Bank of Ireland Seed and Early Stage Equity Fund, has invested €500,000 in Waterford-based ZolkC, a tourism technology specialist.
The company's technology enables tourist and heritage sites to deliver powerful, interactive and engaging experiences to visitors of all ages in multiple languages.
Its product has delivered tours to over 600,000 visitors to various sites including the Culloden Battlefield experience in Scotland; the St Patrick Centre in Downpatrick and the Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience in New Ross.
Founded in 2007, the company emerged from the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) in the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT).
''This investment will enable us to bring our platform to the North American market where we aim to revolutionise how visitors experience tourist sites, using our technology to really bring attractions to life,'' commented the company's chief executive Paul Savage.
