Carlow County Council has decided not to go ahead at present with the re-housing of a family from an estate in Bagnalstown to a rural house in Myshall 12km away.

The decision comes following nearly a week of protests by some people in Myshall.

The council, along with the HSE and the gardaí, wanted to move the family from Bagnalstown but some people believed it would not be good for the Myshall area if the relocation of the family went ahead.

In a statement this evening, the council said the allocation of a local authority dwelling at Ballaughmore, Myshall is postponed until the end of April.

They added that the deferral relates to housing need, remedial work and community concern.

A spokesperson would make no further comment.
