Gardaí investigating the murder of a British man whose body was recovered from the River Bandon on Tuesday have made contact with his family.

Liaison officers traced family members of 42-year-old John Forrester in Lincoln, England.

It is understood that Mr Forrester, who was found with his hands and feet bound, was beaten and stabbed before his body was dumped in the river last weekend.

Meanwhile, the funeral of 27-year-old Jonathan Duke, whose body was also recovered from the river on Sunday last, will be held today at St Patrick's Church in Bandon at noon.

A man and a woman, who have since been charged with his murder, are due to appear in court again on Monday.
