Achill search stood down for night

An air and sea search for a Finnish tourist who fell from a cliff off Achill Island in Co Mayo has been stood down for the night.

A man, who is believed to be a Finnish tourist, fell from a cliff at Cloughmore earlier today.

The alarm was raised by a woman who was walking on the cliff top with him.

Neil Canning of Malin Head Coast Guard said weather conditions have been very poor throughout the day and it was still too dangerous to employ a helicopter winch.

The Achill lifeboat and the Sligo-based Coast Guard helicopter were at the scene. the search has been stood down for the night and will resume at first light tomorrow.
