17 people opposed to the Corrib gas project in Co Mayo have appeared before Belmullet District Court on a range of public order charges.

Most of the charges relate to road blockades at the site of the onshore section of the Corrib gas pipeline.

The protests occurred over the past two months since work began on this site.

14 of the protesters had their cases adjourned until 12 October.

Three more, who travelled from the UK, pleaded guilty to wilful obstruction and failure to comply with a peace officer.

Judge Kevin Kilrane gave the Probation Act to two of the protesters and convicted the third. However, no fine was imposed.
