The chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank, Mike Aynsley has said that the bank will actively pursue its former chief executive David Drumm to get as much money as possible back for the taxpayer.

Mr Aynsley said that Mr Drumm needs to face the public in Ireland, adding ''he needs to get a bit of back-bone and come back''.

In relation to the investigation into the bank, he said it was very complex and would take a lot of time.

He added that there were millions of documents to go through and he said they need the time to go through them but, at the end of the day, he said the investigation needs to come to an end.

He said it was positive that a number of investigations were coming to conclusions and referrals were being made to the DPP and that it was up to him to take these forward.

Mr Aynsley was speaking at the launch of a book into the bank by Irish Times journalist Simon Carswell.
