A man has been charged in connection with the death of a cyclist in Monaghan on Tuesday night.

Zigimantas Gridziusks, 37, of Ard Ross Avenue, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan was arrested yesterday in the town.

He was charged at Dundalk District Court with four offences in relation to the incident, including failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

Judge William Hamill remanded Mr Gridziusks in custody with consent to bail until 28 September, when he is due before Carrickmacross District Court.

A 23-year-old man died when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop on the N2 Carrickmacross to Castleblayney Road.
