Nursing home closed in Co Kilkenny

HIQA has secured an interim District Court order to close the Avondale Private Nursing Home in Callan, Co Kilkenny.

The Health Information and Quality Authority has secured an interim District Court order to close the Avondale Private Nursing Home in Callan, Co Kilkenny.

The home has 12 residents and has now been taken over by the Health Service Executive.

HIQA sought the court order because of serious safety issues.

The HSE says it is working to find alternative accommodation for the residents in cooperation with their families or next of kin.

It says that its priorities are to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Avondale's 12 residents.

The HSE acknowledges that this is a difficult time for the residents and their families, and would like to reassure them that their wellbeing is of paramount importance.
