In Arizona, Phoenix residents have been treated to a beautiful lightning spectacle, a day after a historic dust storm hit the city.

Meteorologists said the big dust storms without rain usually mark the beginning of monsoon season.

Tuesday's wall of dust came with winds of 80km/h covering parts of the city.

Dust storms, a common feature of the season, rarely arrive with the strength and widespread impact as this one.
