Chairman of the Dáil Health Committee Denis Naughten has written to the Health Service Executive and contacted the Health Minister seeking clarification on the future of services at Roscommon County Hospital.

The contacts came after claims that the Emergency Department at the hospital is to be closed from 8pm to 8am daily and on weekends from 11 July.

Mr Naughten's intervention follows a report by the Roscommon Hospital Action Committee that the hospital's ambulance service had been informed at the weekend that their services in Roscommon would be reconfigured from 11 July.

In a statement today, the HSE denied that any decision had been made on the issue.

The HSE said it was currently examining a number of options in relation to Roscommon County Hospital and that discussions are ongoing.

Mr Naughten said he is waiting for a response from Minister James Reilly.
