It is not yet clear who will take over in the European Parliament from the two MEPS that have been elected to the Dáil.

Deputy Joe Higgins said that the decision has not yet been made, as his first nominated substitute Clare Daly has also been elected to the Dáil.

His second nominated substitute is Councillor Ruth Coppinger.

In Labour Alan Kelly's case, his first substitute was Arthur Spring who has also been elected to the Dáil.

His second substitute is Senator Phil Prendergast.

In the coming days the Clerk of the Dáil will write to the Secretary General of the European Parliament to inform him that substitutions will be made.
