Two men have appeared in court tonight in connection with the fatal shooting of a man near Blarney in Co Cork last week.

A 29-year-old man was charged with murder and his 23-year-old brother was charged with a firearms offence.

Patrick Hogan, a 42-year-old father of five, was shot dead near Blarney last Thursday afternoon.

Two of the three men arrested by gardaí as part of the investigation were brought before Cork District Court.

Michael Collins, 29, of Upper Kilmona, Grenagh, was charged with the murder of Mr Hogan, while Donnacha Collins, 23, of the same address, was charged with possession of a rifle and ammunition.

Both were remanded in custody to appear before the court again on Thursday.

The third man arrested by gardaí was released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
