A one-year-old boy has died and his six-year-old sister has been seriously injured in a road accident in Co Limerick.

They were travelling in a car with their mother when it was involved in a head-on crash with a van at Rockhill Cross, Bruree, at around 4.15pm this afternoon.

The mother, who is in her 20s, and daughter were brought to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, as were two male occupants of the van.

The N20 Cork/Limerick Road has reopened following this afternoon's fatal crash.
