A 41-year-old man has been brought before a special sitting of Killarney District Court, on foot of an extradition order, on 11 charges including rape, attempted rape and sexual assault of two young girls.
The man, who is Irish and who has a number of young children in the UK, cannot be named.
Solicitor Padraig O'Connell told the special sitting his client would be denying all allegations.
Detective Garda Sandra Kelly gave evidence of taking custody of the man in London from officers of the London Metropolitan Police and of conveying him to Cork Airport where she formally arrested him and afterwards charged and cautioned him.
Inspector Barry O'Rourke said the State was not objecting to bail, but the alleged offences were 'very serious' and the State would require substantial independent sureties.
The court heard how he had been living in the UK, in a council flat, with his family for the past 11 years.
The man is charged with six rapes, four sexual assaults and one attempted rape, involving two minors in a house in Killarney on dates between 1 December 2001 and 31 January 2002.
Mr O'Connell said he would be making a formal application for bail on behalf of his client, as well as an application for legal aid, on Wednesday next.
Judge James O'Connor remanded the man in custody with consent to bail on his own bond of €10,000 and two independent sureties of €10,000 each.
He is to appear at Tralee District Court next Wednesday.
