Building unions to consider 7.5% pay cut

Unions representing workers in the building trade are expected to meet tomorrow morning to discuss a proposal to cut some wages in the sector by 7.5%.

Unions representing workers in the building trade are expected to meet tomorrow morning to discuss a proposal by the Construction Industry Federation to cut some wages in the sector by 7.5%.

The CIF, which was initially looking for a 30% cut to help the competitiveness of the industry, has accepted a recommendation by the Labour Court for a wage cut of 7.5 %.

The proposed pay cuts will affect site-based workers, operations staff and craft workers only.
