Three men are being questioned in connection with the shooting of Robert Delaney in Tallaght in Dublin almost two years ago.
On 22 October 2008, Mr Delaney was asleep with his partner when there was a knock on his front door. He looked out the bedroom window and was shot in the head.
The 27-year-old postman remains in a permanent vegetative state in Tallaght Hospital.
This morning, a man and two of his sons were arrested at locations in Rathfarnham and Tallaght in connection with the attack.
Gardaí say the father is 57 and was a member of the IRA.
It is understood one of his sons was involved in a fight in a pub and Robert Delaney was shot because he intervened.
The three are being held at Tallaght and Rathfarnham garda stations.
