The inquest into the death of a 50-year-old woman has heard that she complained of 'abdominal discomfort' five days after an elective hysterectomy at a private hospital in Dublin.

Marie McCluskey, a staff nurse at Mount Carmel Hospital, told the Dublin City Coroner's Court that she reported to the nurse manager that Linda Royal had complained of abdominal discomfort.

Replying to the solicitor for the family, Ms McCluskey said that she 'didn't think that it was unusual' that Mrs Royal was in pain from what one doctor diagnosed as constipation.

Linda Royal, from Kingswood Heights in Tallaght, had attended Mount Carmel Hospital for a hysterectomy procedure two years ago.

The mother-of-three was transferred to St James's Hospital seven days later where she died in September 2008.

The inquest continues.
