The funeral of Dublin schoolgirl Michaela Davis has taken place at St Mochta's Church in Porterstown.

The body of the 12-year-old was found in undergrowth beside the Royal Canal in Porterstown last Saturday afternoon.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with her murder.

A guard of honour from a number of local schools and a large gathering from the local community gathered outside the church this afternoon.

Her white coffin was carried into the church by her father, Brendan, and a number of close relatives. It was followed by her distraught mother, Deirdre.

Fr John Daly said 'nobody in the community wanted to be here today' for this reason, saying that Michaela was now returning to the place where only a short few years ago she had been christened.

She will be laid to rest nearby at Clonsilla Churchyard.
