PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott gave details of the bill to members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board in Belfast this afternoon.
Mr Baggott said the overtime bill for policing the trouble in Ardoyne would have funded community policing services in the area for three years.
The PSNI came under fire from missiles and explosives during some of the worst violence for years after an Orange Order parade.
More than 80 police were injured during three nights of unrest in the republican neighbourhood.
