Six One News: David McCullagh, Political Correspondent, reports the Government is looking to make savings of €3bn in December's Budget
Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan has said Exchequer returns to be published tomorrow would indicate that the public finances have stabilised.
Mr Lenihan said the assessment is that we are having economic growth this year and this could be seen in many respects.
He said he recognised that we have some difficulties, but said it is important that we look at the positive assets that we have.
'We can surmount those difficulties,' he said, 'and we have opportunities and it is important we realise them.'
