Gardaí investigating the death of a 12-year-old girl, whose body was found in West Dublin yesterday, say they are following a definite line of inquiry.
The body of Michaela Davis was discovered on a bank of the Royal Canal at Porterstown.
Detectives believe she may have been strangled.
Gardaí are continuing to question a 19-year-old man in connection with the discovery of the child's body.
The youth presented himself to gardaí in Blanchardstown.
A post mortem examination is being carried out.
The teenager is being detained at Blanchardstown Garda station and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
The girl had left her home just after midnight, and her parents reported her missing about two hours later.
Superintendent Dave Dowling of Blanchardstown Garda Station has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
