The Irish Heart Foundation has launched an awareness campaign to highlight how heart disease is the number one cause of death in women.

Over 3,600 women die from a heart attack each year in Ireland.

The foundation also says the symptoms women suffer when having a heart attack can be very different to what men experience.

For women the symptoms can include back, jaw or neck pain, rather than the classic symptom of chest pain.

The risk of heart disease also increases after the menopause.
