Man for court over Derry bomb attack

Police in Derry have charged a second man in connection with a car bomb attack on Strand Road police station in the city last week.

The 53-year-old will appear at Derry Magistrates Court on Monday to face a series of charges, including alleged weapons offences.

A 42-year-old man appeared in court on Friday charged with bombing the police station on 3 August.

Philip O'Donnell from Baldrick Crescent in the Rosemount area of Derry faced a total of 12 charges when he was brought before the court.

Mr O'Donnell was accused of causing the explosion, possessing explosives and a firearm, hijacking a taxi and falsely imprisoning a taxi driver.

He was also charged with being a member of an illegal organisation, Óglaigh na hÉireann. He was remanded in custody.
