A 28-year-old Limerick man has been charged with the attempted murder of another man in the city last May.

Shane Mason, with an address at Sean Heuston Place in Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court today and was also charged with assault causing serious harm to Daniel Philips in the city on 24 May.

He had previously been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life in relation to the same incident.

Daniel Philips, 20, was shot a number of times as he sat in a parked car in St John's Square. He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Gardaí told the court that the accused made no reply when charged.

Shane Mason was remanded in custody to appear in court again via video link on 18 August.
