The Committee had intended to consider how to deal with the allegations at the end of this month, but it will now meet on 9 August. The meeting will be held in private at Leinster House.
Meanwhile, Minister of State Conor Lenihan has called on Senator Ivor Callely to break his silence on the controversy surrounding his expenses.
Mr Lenihan told RTÉ it was 'high time he gave a proper explanation' saying if the allegations were true he would have to resign.
Mr Lenihan said he was 'surprised' by Senator Callely's silence saying the controversy was 'doing huge and untold damage to politics in this country'.
It comes as Green Party chairman Senator Dan Boyle said the ongoing controversy over Senator Callely's expenses is undermining the Seanad and the political system as a whole.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland, Senator Dan Boyle said he was absenting himself from the Committee for having spoken out openly about the issue.
Mr Boyle also said he is seeking the resignation of Ivor Callely from the Seanad.
Last night, Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy confirmed he had written to the Clerk of the Seanad seeking clarification of certain matters.
