A demonstration outside the Dáil tomorrow by Rural Ireland Says Enough, the group which has been opposing aspects of the Government's Dog Breeding Bill, has been cancelled.
Representatives of RISE, along with another group, met the Taoiseach today.
It is understood considerable progress was made on amendments relating to hunting dogs, which was the outstanding area of contention.
The Irish Greyhound Board has already welcomed changes in the provisions relating to their sector.
It is expected two Fianna Fáil backbenchers with reservations about the Bill will now support it when it is put to a vote tomorrow.
A Fianna Fail backbencher who had opposed aspects of the Bill has welcomed the decision to cancel the demonstration.
West Cork Deputy Christy O'Sullivan said substantial progress was made in the meeting with the Taoiseach and he expected to be able to support the Bill when the details of amendments emerge tomorrow.
