Fire in commercial premises in Co Cork

A fire at a bacon processing plant in Co Cork is believed to have been started maliciously.

The fire broke out at around 4am this morning at the Irish Bacon Slicers facility at the Innismore Industrial Estate in Ballincollig.

It took several units of Cork City Fire Service more than an hour to bring the fire under control.

The area has been forensically examined and a garda investigation is taking place.

Between 65 and 70 people are employed at the plant and production has resumed.
