A solicitor representing ten of the Bloody Sunday victims and a number of those injured has said it will take weeks to read the very detailed Saville report and then consider the legal options available.

He will then meet the relatives and the wounded and discuss the implications of the report's conclusions.

The solicitor said he would be making representations in due course to the Public Prosecution Service on behalf of his clients and had written to the PPS to advise them of the position.

A statement from Peter Madden of Madden and Finucane said that as in the past, the families would attempt to approach the legal options as a unified group, supporting each other in thoughtful debate.

The solicitor said these families, and families like them, are the true defenders of human rights and those suffering injustice anywhere should look to them for inspiration.

Those suffering injustice anywhere should never give up the fight for truth, he added.
