Opponents of the Corrib Gas project in Co Mayo have rejected the latest offer from Shell Ireland to discuss changes to the route of the controversial onshore pipeline and other environmental and health and safety issues.

Today they delivered over 400 letters to Shell's offices in Belmullet, saying they would not take part in any meeting with the company while one of the leading Shell to Sea campaigners Pat O Donnell remains in jail.

Mr O Donnell is serving a seven-month sentence for using threatening behaviour to a garda during a protest demonstration.

Shell is currently engaged in a review of the pipeline route and has offered to meet local residents as part of a new consultative process.
