A man has died in a road crash in Co Limerick this morning.

The 30-year-old was killed when his car left the road and hit a tree on the Pallasgreen to Cappamore Road at around 2.10am.

His body has been removed to the Midwestern Regional Hospital Dooradoyle where a post mortem is expected to take place later today.

The road was closed for a time for a garda forensic examination but has since been re-opened.

Later, a 70-year-old man was killed in a road accident in Co Louth.

The collision involving two vehicles happened at Lismanus on the Collon to Dunleer Road.

The man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was pronounced dead.
