Martin to meet Hillary Clinton in Washington

Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin will meet US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington this evening for talks.

They are likely to discuss the recent successful outcome of the talks in Northern Ireland and what can be done to build on that success.

Mrs Clinton will be honoured this evening for her contribution to the peace process in Northern Ireland at a dinner hosted by the American Ireland Fund.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has meanwhile arrived in Washington DC, ahead of his St Patrick's Day meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House.

Northern Ireland's First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness are also in the US capital for the St Patrick's Day celebrations.
